The inventor (Joe) of this new vent filter has built a better mouse trap as the saying goes. In this case its a better smell trap. The issue with existing vent filters is the residence time for the malodor of hydrogen sulfide gas, mercaptans and organic acids from anerobic bacteria. Traditional filters have a very short residence or time the gases from holding tanks spend in the carbon bed. To make things worse, straight pipe vent filters mounted horizontal end up with compressed carbon and leaving an air gap at the top for the odors to travel quickly past the carbon, making them useless.
A 5 chamber helix for the flow of the gases is the patent pending design; it creates six (6) times the residence over a straight flow filter. The longer the gases are in contact with the blended carbon, the more it absorbs the odor. The helix design solved another problem, if mounted horizonal and the carbon breaks down leaving an air gap at the top, the flow direction always is going down and back up putting it in contact with the carbon most of the time. It can be mounted vertically too.
Joe didn't stop there; he integrated a umbrella style relieve valve in a tube down the middle of the filter. This is a safety relief for when you are getting your waste tank pumped out. Most of the pump stations have pumps that are so fast, they put a lot of demand on that vent line. Not to impede on that process, it has this bypass tube. I've not seen this in any other filter.
All this great design and there is more; Its refillable ! Refills are sold here - REFILL. Additionally, the caps were designed with self centering threads so they won't cross thread during refill time. Leave the hoses in place and remove the filter by hand. The caps have an integrated silicone seal that will last for many years. The hose barbs were purpose made for vapor, making them very easy to push hose on during install.
